This week we are looking at the influence of the "r" on vowel sounds. Here is how this week's sort should look:

We will talk more about this difference in upc This week we are exploring some additional ambiguous vowel sound patterns. These patterns are not considered to be long or short vowel sounds. Laughed is an oddball because the "au" have the short "a" sound, rather than the sound we are looking at this week. We talked about how lawyer could be pronounced in different ways, but because we tend to pronounce it with an "oi" sound, we felt it was an oddball. All right is also a word to watch, as it is really two words. It is a commonly misspelled word. This week we are exploring ambiguous vowel sounds in words, with a focus on whether the sound comes in the first or the second syllable.
