We are beginning our unit on Alaska's people, looking particularly at how Alaska Native groups traditionally adapted to their environments. If your student has any Alaska Native artifacts or pictures that he/she would like to bring in to share, we would love to see them. Because things sometimes happen at school, please make arrangements with me if it is something valuable. Also, remember the school policy which prohibits weapons of any kind at school.
If you have any experiences or expertise on Alaska Native cultures that you would like to share with us, we would love to have you as a guest speaker. Please send me a note and we can arrange a time for you to come in.
Winter Gear
The cold has seemed relentless this winter, and this is just a reminder that students should have all of their winter gear with them when they come to school. Because a walk to or from a bus stop can seem long on a cold day, students are encouraged to wear their gear to and from the bus as well. Thanks for your help to keep our children safe!
Next week:
In Reading, we will continue to practice finding the theme in our reading, as well as self-correcting.
In Writing, we will work through another personal narrative piece. Ask your child what he/she has learned about flee maps.
In Math, we will have a review week, where we make sure we have mastered addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
In Social Studies, we will continue our work on our Alaska Native projects.
