Spelling City
Students can now find the weekly spelling list on Spelling City! There are a couple of ways to access the list: you can go to the Class Resources page on the class website, and click on Spelling City under the Word Study section, or you can go to Spelling City at www.spellingcity.com and search for Stephanie Richardson. The lists for the entire year are posted there, so students will want to know the lesson number for the week. Next week, we will be working on lesson 17.
At Spelling City, students have the chance to play games to practice the spelling words, as well as practice the meanings of the words. It is a great, engaging site for spelling practice.
Speaking of Spelling...
Spelling is up and running again next week. Students are bringing home their first spelling packet of the semester today. Don't forget, spelling packets are due the following Friday.
States of Matter
In Science, we've been exploring the 3 most common states of matter. Ask your child what he/she knows about solids, liquids and gasses. We have been conducting a few experiments, which will continue into next week.
Voices and Poetry
In writing, we are exploring the writing trait of Voice. We have looked at various authors and poets put voice into their writing. If you have a favorite poet or poem, share it with your child. Students are also welcome to bring in a poem to share with the class.
Next week:
In Reading, we will continue to look at the differences between facts and opinions.
In Math, we will continue our work in Unit 7, which deals with fractions.
In Writing, we are exploring voice and how to add our own voice to writing.
In Science, we will continue our work with states of matter.
