Conferences are right around the corner, and this is a time for us to reflect upon your student's achievements, and set some goals for the coming quarter. Students are encouraged to be part of this process, and it would be wonderful to have them at the conference. We will be doing some reflection and goal-setting in class in preparation for the conferences. I look forward to seeing you all this next week.
Fall Festival Help
Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of the parents who helped work at the Fall Festival booths. The kids had a great time, and it was clear we had some popular booths judging by the long lines left at 3:00. I couldn't have done it without you all!
Nightly Reading
Beginning the week after conferences, students will be keeping track of their nightly reading on a reading log. We will be creating our own "bookshelf" with spines of books we've read, as well as a bibliography of titles that other students may want to read. I am looking forward to exploring some good books with the students.
Word Study
Is your student finding the word study homework a challenge? Check out the Word Study section of this website, at http://wellerrich.weebly.com/word-study.html where you can find this week's words, and explanation, and a movie that can be watched to help explain the sort. I am still working on the format, so please let me know if there are changes you could like to see.
Next Week:
Reading - We will explore how to choose a book at a good reading level, and practice our fluency.
Writing - We will finish our non-fiction investigations, and spend some time writing reflections about our work so far this year.
Social Studies - We will continue to explore Athabascan culture.
Science - There won't be any science classes next week
Math - We are getting into multiplication of large numbers. Watch the Class Resources section of the class webpage, at http://wellerrich.weebly.com/class-resources.html for explanations and movies of the algorithms we use in class.
