As much as I hate to say goodbye to our lovely fall weather, it's hard to ignore the signs of winter coming right around the corner. Now would be a great time to gather the winter gear your child needs to be safe and comfortable at recess. It would be great for students to begin to bring their hats and gloves to school, and if it looks like a cold day, students will probably be more comfortable in a heavy coat. Please remember the winter gear guidelines that can be found in the Student Handbook which was sent home at the beginning of the year. Those guidelines can also help you decide which gear is most appropriate to send with your student during these transition weeks.
Alaska regions
We've been hard at work learning about Alaska's geography, and next week we will begin to turn our focus toward distances between large landmarks (to see just how big Alaska really is!), as well as look at the climate differences between the differences. If your child has pictures of different places that he/she would like to bring in to share, it would enhance our studies. Thursday or Friday of next week would be a good time to send those pictures in.
Music instrument
While the due date for the percussion instrument for music has passed, students are still encouraged to make an instrument to turn in for music. Because this project is a large part of the music grade, missing that assignment can make a huge difference in a student's music grade for the quarter. If materials are a problem, please let me know and I can assist.
Next week:
In reading, we will continue our work with fluency by doing another reader's theater. Ask your child about the podcasts we made today.
In writing, we will be doing our own explanation writing piece. Students will also be working with their word study words, and looking at adjectives.
In math, we will be working through lessons 3.5 through 3.10 in math. Students are encouraged to use the study links that came home earlier in the week for extra practice. We will also be working on our 7 times table.
In social studies, we will continue our look at Alaska's geography.
