Plans are well underway for our Ft. Knox field trip on Monday, May 6. If students haven't yet turned in their permission slip and waiver, please bring them soon so we can make sure that everyone is ready for the trip. At this time, more than enough chaperones have volunteered.
On Friday, look for more information about the winter gear students should bring and other tips about the trip. We should have a great time!
Biography project
Students are beginning a biography project, where they are reading a biography and they will turn the information they learn into an oral presentation about that person. Most of the project will be done in class, but I am going to ask students to make a puppet of their person at home next week as their homework. While I would encourage students to wait until next week, it may be a good idea to start thinking about materials they would like to use to create their puppet. It should be a fun project.
Homework for next week (suggested schedule):
Monday - read for 20 minutes, math sheet
Tuesday - read for 20 minutes, language page
Wednesday - read for 20 minutes, writing rough draft
Thursday - read for 20 minutes, edit writing.
Next Week:
In both reading and writing, we will be working on reading our biography books and gathering information about our person.
In math, we are beginning Unit 10 which deals with reflections and symmetry. Ask your child to describe how a transparent mirror is used to help show reflections and lines of symmetry.
In the afternoon, we will wrap up our look at rocks and minerals by exploring how rocks are classified, as well as how scientists use fossils to make inferences.
