This next Friday, students will have an Alaska map quiz. This week, students drew a map of Alaska and labeled it with 21 major physical features. As part of their homework this next week, I encourage students to spend just 5 minutes a night practicing their map at home. In class, our practice consists of taking a blank piece of paper and the list of items, drawing as much as we know, and then looking to add the other items to our map. Here is a list of items students should have on their maps:
- Alaska Range
- Brooks Range
- Coast Mountains
- Prince William Sound
- Gulf of Alaska
- Bering Sea
- Arctic Ocean
- Pacific Ocean
- Chukchi Sea
- Beaufort Sea
- Kodiak Is.
- Aleutian Islands
- Yukon River
- Alaska Pen.
- Kenai Pen.
- Seward Pen.
- Canada
- Russia
- Fairbanks
- Anchorage
- Juneau
- Compass Rose
This is just a reminder that there will not be school on Monday, September 30. Teachers will be in training that day. I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday!
