We have had a great start to our year, and are already knee-deep in learning. We've been exploring exactly what we do while we read, began writing some of our own stories, dipped our toes into some geometry, and have practiced our observation skills as we looked at the "Dead chickens of Science" in our insect unit.
Perhaps most importantly, we have been practicing the rules and procedures that help our classroom run smoothly. I think we will have a great year, packed with some great learning.
Parent Volunteers
Thanks to all of you who have said you would like to help out in the classroom. It will be great to have parents in supporting the students with their learning. Because it is the beginning of the year, our schedule is still very tentative. As it begins to become more permanent, I will contact those of you who indicated you'd like to help so we can set up a time for you to come in.
Next week:
In Reading, we will continue to practice reading independently, as well as exploring characters' traits and motivations in stories.
In Writing, we will be continuing to develop good ideas in our writing, as well as exploring the parts that make up a sentence.
In Math, we will work our way through Unit 1, which focuses on geometry and the properties of shapes. Students are able to bring home their SRB (math reference book) which has been checked out to them.
In Science, we will continue to look at insects, as well as work with GPS units as we learn the technology skills we need for our upcoming unit on Alaska's plants.
