We had a great time at the Museum of the North, exploring both the permanent exhibits and the special exhibit. I hope your student was able to tell you a bit about what we saw and what he/she learned during the afternoon. As an aside, the Museum of the North is hosting an open house tomorrow, Saturday, January 26th, from 12-4. Admission is free during this time, and they will have the basement rooms open to explore. If you get a chance to go, I think it will be fun. Thanks to Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Lockwood, Mr. Malenfant, and Mr. Purdy who were able to accompany us on our trip. Your help allowed us to have a successful field trip!
Nonfiction Investigations
Next week during our literacy times, we will be exploring reading and writing nonfiction. Students will be choosing an animal to research, and then will create a nonfiction investigation poster explaining a little about the animal. Since we have focused upon animal adaptations, that will be a big part of the project. Next Monday, ask your child which animal he/she chose to research.
Homework for next week (suggested schedule):
Monday - Read for 20 minutes, math paper
Tuesday - Read for 20 minutes, editing page.
Wednesday - Read for 20 minutes, plan writing and write first draft
Thursday - Read for 20 minutes, edit writing for CUPS.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions regarding homework.
Next week:
In reading, we will read about an animal for our investigations.
In math, we will continue to explore fractions.
In writing, we will write about our animal for our investigations.
In science/social studies, we will wrap up our look at animal adaptations and begin to explore the ways people have adapted to their environments.
