It was a pleasure getting to meet with all of you during conferences. If you weren't able to make your conference time and you would like to meet with me, please don't hesitate to contact me to set up a time. I enjoy the time we get to spend chatting about our wonderful students!
Spelling Packets
During the first quarter, students were doing all of their spelling practice in class. However, I have decided that some extra home practice would benefit students. Beginning next week, you can expect to see a spelling packet come home. Students will have a week to complete the packet. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Weekly Newsletter
Beginning with this week's newsletter, I will be sending out an e-mail link to the class website version of the newsletter. I will still send home a hard copy each Friday as well. As I will be sending the e-mails through Powerschool, now would be a great time to set up your parent account, if you haven't already. Information about setting up parent accounts came home at conferences, but if you need another copy of your guardian ID and password, please contact the Weller office at 457-1629.
How You Can Help
During conferences, we talked a lot about having students practice their reading in a "good fit" book each night. While there are lots of wonderful books to be found at homes and in the library, there is also a wealth of reading material that can be found online, particularly if your child is interested in nonfiction topics. The school district has a host of online resources, which can be found at http://www.k12northstar.org/departments/lms/online-resources. In here, you can find a wide variety of nonfiction resources and topics; a student just needs to login with his/her S number and password to have access to the resources. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Next week:
In Math, we will be wrapping up our look at decimals. Students will take a test over Unit 4 on Friday.
In Literacy, we will once again explore conflict/resolution as a comprehension strategy, as well as practice our fluency and summarizing skills.
In Science, we will begin to explore our Solar System. We will begin by looking at the planets, and their relative size and distance.
