We've begun Unit 11 in math, which focuses on comparing and ordering fractions. Our next math unit will delve into adding and subtracting fractions, something that can be confusing for some students. One way you can support your student is by talking about the ways you use fractions in your everyday life, which can help them solidify their understanding of what a fraction is and how manipulating them can be useful. Don't forget that students have access to the math materials online, and they are welcome to view any of the videos and/or practice with book exercises or worksheets before or after our lessons.
Tissues please
Students have been very conscientious about using tissues when they need them. Unfortunately, this means that we have also run out of tissues for our classroom. If you could send in an extra box with your student, our noses would sure appreciate it.

In math, we will finish our look at comparing and ordering fractions.
During reading, we will begin to look at literary devices and the ways that authors play with language.
Writing will find us also playing with language, using some of those literary devices in our own writing.
During our afternoon, we will continue to look at the Southeast Region of the United States. Students will be creating a paper quilt square, showing the people, geography and resources of the Southeast.
