One of the 4th grade end-of-the-year projects is to tie dye shirts. We are asking that each child bring in a white cotton t-shirt for the project. Our plan is to tie dye shirts next Friday morning, so if students can bring in the shirts before then it would be helpful. The shirts do not have to be new (in fact, this can be a great way to renew a stained white shirt) but we do ask that the shirt not have any words or pictures on it. We've found that men's undershirts can be a great option. You can find more information about the project on the paper sent home today, or if you have any questions, please let me know.
Ft. Knox field trip
We will be going on our Ft. Knox field trip this next Thursday, May 10th. We will be gone from approximately 9:10 to 1:00. I will send home a reminder note again next week, but now would be a good time to make sure your student has appropriate gear for the trip. It should be a great time!
End of the year and homework
The next couple of weeks are going to be busy ones for us. In addition to tie dying and our Ft. Knox field trip, we also have class projects we're working on, art specialists visiting our class, and a time for math games in the gym. Because of the special events, students will no longer have homework besides continuing to read each evening. Thanks for being supportive of your child's academic growth this year. If your child has overdue homework/classwork assignments that he/she would like to receive credit for, I will need to have those turned in by next Wednesday, May 9th. Thanks for your help!
Library books and SRB's
Now is the time to make sure your child has turned in all library books, as well as his/her SRB math book. If you find any of those around your house, please help your child bring them to school.
Next week:
In Reading, we will continue to explore figurative language.
In Writing, we will continue to work on our persuasive writing pieces.
In Math, we will continue to go through Unit 12, which looks at solving rate problems.
In Social Studies, we are working on an Alaska History project. Ask your child what he/she has learned about Alaska's history and what he/she is trying to do with the project.
