This week, we've had fun wondering about our Solar System, and exploring the skies each evening. Students should be completing an Astronomy Journal entry each night Monday through Thursday, for a total of 4 a week. Students may use the weekend to work ahead, or if they would like to do some extra for extra credit, they may do some extra entries. Each entry should give a detailed description, through art or words, of what the student sees. Students also need to include at least 2 questions they have as they look into the sky. Those questions help guide our discussions in class. Students are encouraged to be creative. We also use our journals for in-class work, so it is important that students bring the journals to class each day. Happy observing!
Homework for next week:
Monday - Astronomy Journal entry, math homework
Tuesday - Astronomy Journal entry, math homework
Wednesday - Astronomy Journal entry, math homework
Thursday - Astronomy Journal entry, math homework
Friday - Astronomy Journal for extra credit or to work ahead (optional)
Next week:
In reading, we will delve back into close reading, and look at strategies for backing up our answers with evidence.
During math, we will begin Unit 8. Don't forget you can access the math materials through PowerSchool. Students are welcome to watch the videos to preview next week's material.
In writing, we've finished our Pumpkin Planet stories. We will now use a rubric to guide our revisions, and literally cut our "sloppy copies" apart to add details.
In the afternoon, we continue our look at astronomy. Next week's activities are a bit of a secret, at this point, but be sure to ask your student about aliens on Monday.
