It was nice to be back this week, after having to be out for three days last week. Because of that, and the short week , there was no Word Study homework . Next week we should be back to our regular routine.
Winter is here
Thank you for helping your child have the proper winter gear to be safe outside. Students should be bringing coats, hats, gloves and boots to school to be prepared for recess.
The Northeast Region
We're embarking on an exploration of the Northeast Region of the United States in Social Studies. We began by examining a population map of the Northeast, and we noticed that the Northeast has a large, dense population. This led us to wonder why people choose to live in the Northeast, and we generated questions we would need to answer to figure that out. Next week, students will be researching the answers to those questions, using multiple resources. We are looking for some first-person experts on the Northeast, so if you, or your family members, know a bit about the Northeast and would be willing to be interviewed by students, please contact me so we can set up a time for an interview. We also have the ability to Skype, if that would be a possibility. We're excited about digging into the Northeast as social scientists!

Next week:
During reading, we will continue to look at main idea and details. We will examine how to determine the main idea of a passage, which will set us up for our future studies on summarizing.
In writing, students will be working on their own information piece, using a flee map to organize their ideas and then writing them in paragraph form.
In math, we are working on Unit 5. Remember, students can access the math materials by logging into the math program through PowerSchool.
We will be researching the Northeast during our afternoon time.
